Filk: Who Are You People?

As I mentioned in my previous post the songwriting panel went amazingly well. As promised, here are the lyrics that we came up with.

Who Are You People?

TTTO: Pigeon Park Pirates (or something like it)
(Written at the Norwescon 31 songwriting panel by shaddyr, hsifyppah, banjoplayinnerd and Steve Dixon)

The pilots stepped in to the hallway
The flight crew pressed in close behind
And they looked around and the things that they saw
Made them regret they weren't blind

Pirates, stormtroopers and wizards
In corsets and leather and chains
They were surround by folks dressed as lizards
and zombies out looking for brains

Oh, no, please let us go!
Who are you people? they cried
The Hilton assured us a peaceful night's slumber
in calming surroundings - THEY LIED
Oh, no, please let us go!
We're learning the meaning of fear
We won't pet your dragon, we won't sell our "costumes"
We just want to get out of here!

Cute! (Is the title of the source tune you're looking for, perhaps, "The Lincoln Park Pirates"? :)

Well, I tried singing it to Frank Hayes "Lincoln Park Pirates" and it works.

It's actually by Steve Goodman - it's the one song on Never Set the Cat on Fire that's a cover song.

During the panel, shaddyr commented that while the original was Lincoln Park Pirates, she's never actually heard that one and only heard the filks of it, which is why I think she credited the tune as she did even though it's basically the same tune -- To be honest, I think the first time I heard that specific tune was during that panel (which feels really odd to admit given how many random filk songs float in my brain most days)

If they're Japanese, they can usually handle it, since they've been raised on Anime...

*laugh* I'm going to have to remember this for this weekend.... I'm off to Midsouth Con & the hotel is like the hotel for flight crews, since it's right next to the airport. (As far as I know, there is no other nice hotel anywhere close...)

I get to go work my tail off in con suite and hope that I can beg/trade Selina Rosen ('cause I know she's an MT) for work on my neck.

Will be bringing my chair at least to offer up chair work for tips for charity. The Beer Wench will maybe have her TN license next year... it's just so damn expensive for each state getting them. :-p

Dude! You totally need to take it down to the filk room and get someone to sing it for you! Bwahahaha!

And Eric Flint? That's so awesome! I wish he'd come up here! I <3 him and David Webber.

Let me tell you a tale of a black, Southern Baptist wedding in the lower courtyard (which used to be the indoor pool) on a Saturday afternoon surrounded on FOUR SIDES by con fen.

These were folks who just had to have this weekend for their wedding, mind you. (I think the hotel totally sold them on this date, just to screw w/ the con, since it took away con function space.)

So, in the middle of the ceremony, this statuesque blond girl wearing black fairy wings, a black lace dress and platform knee high black vinyl boots come strolling from the back of the main building quad area (which is like hidden mostly by the fake rock sculpture covering like the elevator shaft.) with to Orc Guards in full Orc masks and armor as her escort.

Almost every male head in the crowd spun to watch her saunter by - including the groom. Lots of men got smacked upside the head by their respective ladies.

Me, I'm just laughing all the way because yeah, she's hot looking and she knows it. Better than the bride! :-p

These folks were all scared of us, having their reception in said courtyard, surrounded by us strange con fen and these "scantily" dressed women.

It's something I will never forget, because she knew she was good looking and the Orc Guards was just a perfect touch to it all.

Okay, it is now almost 2 am, I have a cat who has curled up into a ball at the foot of the bed and gone to sleep. I think that's a good idea - my allergies are killing me w/ all this rain (mold count, how I love thee so - Not!) and I know that the Evil One and I are expected to be pack mules for the con reg chairs that we are house sitting for.

Oh Dear God. That would be worth the price of admission alone. Yes, it would. I certainly hope that someone got *pictures*.

Stupid hotel never should have put a mundane event during a con.

This sounds like Writercon 2006 when we were having our very loud, very racous cocktail party and dance in the ballroom right beside a family that seemed to be in town for the Southern Baptist convention. Yeah.

There were actually a few interesting incidents that weekend starting with mintwitch and a few others talking about pr0n and writing pr0n while setting up the Magic Box/Dealers Room, then looking up to see a dad and his little kid standing at the door... *urk*

And then there was a pastor guy complaining to the hotel staff while some of the gals were checking out on Sunday about how he was surrounded by "Harlots and fallen women!"

I wonder if he ran into the gal he was carrying around the sex toys on Saturday night after her Toy party?

*snerk*

God, I love freaking the mundanes. It's totally the best thing ever.

This is Memphis - they don't understand us Con Fen at all.

Hell, we even scared the TSA guys in like 2002 or 2003 (I can't quite remember) when they were trying to screen for TSA Agents at this hotel still that Friday. Needless to say, us costumed freaks were generally more educated than I'd say like 90% of the applicants.

They didn't know what to make of us either. They were like, "You can't come into the courtyard. Top Sekret!"

Us: It's our space - we paid for it, but hey, we'll just play freak the mundanes! :-p
