VCon meeting today.

Working on getting some new people and events happening.

Masquerade. Dance. Concert(s). Steampunk Tea.

I gotta make a Steampunk costume. I don't really have a clue what I am going to do other than make a black/metallic corset. And, I think, a velour vest for Monkey Boy.

Other than goggles and gears, I'm kind of at a loss on how to make it really Steampunk-y.

Oh well. I have 7 months. It's just that I know how fast 7 months becomes 2 becomes 7 days and then BOOM! It's the day before the con!

Also, I think that I may have been talked into co-chairing VCon 36... Occasionally, I think I'm crazy, and then I do something completely batshit crazy like this, and it's confirmed...

Steampunk colors are Brown Leather and Brass.

Old keys also make nice accessories.

My advice: Spend about a month studying other people's costumes, take notes, then throw the notes in the dumpster and do something original.

You might make an excellent Queen of Jupiter.

I usually associate "steampunk" with the Victorian era, so something completely over-the-top and absurd would work. [Most furniture of the time was carved with all sorts of ornate curlicues.] As maverick_weirdo noted, the punk aspect also encourages lots of metal decorations.

OOOOOOOOO - steampunk!
Going to the World Steam Expo in May (me and the kid) SO much fun to be had. Also much more than goggles, gears and brown. You want info, I got info. And patterns, and material, and more patterns, and more material, and half-finished this, and partially started that, and have you seen my good scissors?

Haven't been around much lately, and then I pop by and see this - how serendipitous. Drop me a note when you have minute.

*laughs*

Oh, Els! I miss you!

And how much do I *totally* relate to that of which you speak? Too much, that's how much! I haven't been able to find my good scissors since the last time I did some costuming...

Re: OOOOOOOOO - steampunk!
LOL - I just spent $60 dollars of my tax return on boning and busks - NO COMMENTS FROM THE PEANUT GALLERY - that's sewin' talk, not innuendo!!!

Miss you too. Life, it SO gets in the way.

I have many, many links, too many to post here. Also, do not have your addy on this computer, so.....

If you want something to completely blow your mind, only somewhat steampunk related - www.bobbasset.com . It makes me think many thoughts of working in leather - AGAIN, HUSH WITH THE COMMENTS, WE'RE TALKING ART HERE!

Hee! Half the people on my LJ would grok boning and busks!

I actually order all my stuff from Farthingales because a) Canadian and b) they have *everything* I could ever want. I like Dressew here in town, but they don't have busks or steel boning, only the spun wire. Which is okay, but it doesn't have the oomph I need.

Dammit girl, I wish we lived closer. We could totally have a stitch and bitch.

Yeah, nothing like bonding over boning. Ok, no matter how you say it, or whatever contaext you use - it never comes out quite as innocent as you want it to....

RE; the links - as in steampunk, not sewing. I've done all the research already, so if you want to save some time, let me know.
