NOT the way I wanted to start the day...

I was about 50 feet away from the driveway to the parking lot this morning, having stopped at a yield sign where there was a merge, when the guy coming up behind me decided that my car, was in fact, still moving.

I don't recommend getting rear-ended as a start to your day. It kind of sucks.

Good things
- Car still appears to be working.
- guy who hit me wasn't an asshole
- I was only a little late for work (relatively speaking since I don't actually have a set start time, so it doesn't matter - but for me, I was late)
- was only on hold with ICBC for half an hour to report claim

Bad Things
- fucking CAR ACCIDENT, DAMMIT!
- my neck is sore
- I am having trouble concentrating
- was fricking on hold with ICBC for half an hour!
- claims girl said my car is old so they might write it off! No way can I afford to replace it!

GRAGH!

I am going to work from home tomorrow as I have an appointment to see the adjuster at ICBC tomorrow morning. Hmm, just checked and that address is near hsifyppah's new place. *gasp* If she were home and I dropped by, we would actually see each other in the same city*! WHOA!

(*it's an ongoing joke between us that we have lived pretty much a stones throw from each other for about 10 years, and yet we see each other more often in other cities in OTHER COUNTRIES than we do at home.)

Okay. Must try to focus. Also, there will be wine tonight.

If your car is still drivable, would they just give you the check for having totaled it, and then you could use the money however you want? You could keep the car and the money that way. That's how it works here when they total a car (in my state, anyway).

*big hugs* Car accidents suck. I'm glad you're mostly okay.

I am not really sure how it all works. I will find out when I talk to the adjuster tomorrow and find out I guess.

ICBC. I'd rather deal with the 12th Century Catholic Church...

Ugh! So glad that you weren't hurt worse and that the car is still drivable, but still... major suckage. Someone may have already told you this, but odds are good you'll be even more sore tomorrow. It's just the way our bodies deal with that sort of trauma.

Yeah, I think you are right, actually. I have been getting progressively more sore through the day, and my lower back is staring to hurt now. Not majorly, just - sore.

If I hadn't already decided to do so, I would definitely work from home tomorrow.

Crap. Do get checked out by a doctor, kiddo. Whiplash is nothing to mess around with. I thought I was fine after my car accident, only to discover a month later I couldn't turn my head to the left. DO NOT SIGN OFF ON ANYTHING FROM THE OTHER GUY'S INSURANCE. Stuff can show up a long time after the initial accident. :-(

I'm glad it wasn't any worse than it was.

DO NOT SIGN OFF ON ANYTHING FROM THE OTHER GUY'S INSURANCE.

Here in BC, everyone is covered by the same provided - ICBC. It's a crown corporation, run by the government. So all roads lead there. I know it's weird, but that's how it works.

ICBC is its own special kind of nightmare for anyone in BC who has been in a major crash. However, I was in a small accident 6 or 7 years ago and it all went quickly and easily for me - no deductible, my car was fixed, and I kept my 40% deductible Road Star rating.

I am going to wait until Monday to see how I feel. If I am still stiff and sore and owie, I will call my doc and make an appointment. I pinky swear.

It may not seem like it, but a pinky swear is a big deal coming from me.

Go see the doc! See if you can get ICBC to cover getting at least 2 massages to help deal w the whiplash injuries that just going to go see a reg doc won't fix.

You know me - I'm all for pushing massage on people because it does SO MUCH that pills won't do.

Well, at least it's all in the family. :-)

I keep forgetting that you don't live in the US, home of THE WORLD'S BEST HEALTHCARE SYSTEM, that is, unless you actually get sick or injured. :-(

Soft tissue damage is such a grey area (fortunately, my personal disaster avoided that matter - somehow); do NOT settle lightly, or prematurely with Them if you fear it's an issue.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope YOU are not seriously damaged - whiplash, eye damage, etc. Happened to me once and I had a spot in my left eye that the eye doc watched for about 3 mo until it cleared up.

So far, it seems like I am just stiff/sore -I'll see how I feel in a few days. I am hoping it will just be minor.

Relatively alright is all I ever am. If I was completely alright, I would be boring. And mundane. And I wouldn't write FIC! That would be sad.

You not writing fic would be a huge loss for fandom, I think! I would be sad, I know. Thank god you're not completely alright ;)

[Where's my glare icon when I really need it? To direct at them that hurt you.]

Ow - such bad luck. I'm sorry it happened to you. As for the write-off, it sucks. Happened to an ex of mine. He was perfectly fine, but the old (reliable) car was a goner and what he got from insurance for it was ABSOLUTELY pathetic. So he never had a car again.

As you're staying home from work, can you take a hot epsom salts bath?

fender benders...
Sorry to hear you were in a fender bender... I have been there a couple times myself.

I immediately get on ibuprofen as the anti-inflammatory can help reduce the amount of inflammation that will continue to ramp up over the next 3-4 days. Ice is Nice, you can use it 20 min. of every hour to help reduce swelling & pain as well.

Yes, massage can help as LadyNiko (Heidi) indicated... but give your neck & back time to complete the inflammatory process before you start treating with massage. People often try to do too much too soon in their lives and not take time for healing, and it can mean the inflammation can continue for months even years longer.

Give yourself a break... and allow things to heal at YOUR own pace, and not on someone else's time table!
