VCON 33: Ramblings of the sleep-deprived

For me, VCON started Wednesday night with trying to get some pre-con filk and hospitality prep done. I got about 4 1/2 hours of sleep that night and went into Thursday feeling like I usually feel on Friday.

Thursday night I made it to the GoH dinner, which was AWESOME because I got to meet Dr. Jaymie Matthews, our science GoH. A real life Canadian Astrophysicist. Who actually consulted on Stargate SG1 and Continuum. And knew what filk and fanfiction were. And gave me permission to reference him in SGA a fanfic in which Rodney McKay makes not-quite disparaging remarks about UBC and him in specific to indicate that he has passable intelligence and isn't a complete moron. Because I thought it might be polite to ask. Holy crap! I think I have a crush on Dr. Matthews now! It's not just Rodney McKay - clearly, I have a kink for Canadian Astrophysicist!

There was a lot of running back and forth and minor crisis management for me - having taken on Hospitality with Jazzy a month before the con meant I was on double duty, and unfortunately I had to abandon my filkers a couple of times over the weekend because of it - but overall, I think it was a good con. People seemed to be having a good time. Folks seemed happy with hospitality and programming and the dance.

Jazzy sold some of her artwork. Girly girl lived in the gaming room and is on her way to being a permanent fixture there. Monkey Boy bopped between gaming, hospitality, the pool and our room. I actually made it to 2 of my scheduled 3 panels that I was supposed to be on. The Pondsidian crew tried to buy Dr. Matthews for me in the charity auction, but they were outbid. The dealer's room had a Rodney McKay action figure and I TOTALLY BOUGHT IT AND HE BELONGS TO ME NOW BWAHHAHAHAHAA!! *cough*

I sent the kids home Sunday night and stayed for the Dead Dog. We ended up not sleeping at all that night. I finally packed up the rest of my shit and headed out around 7:30 am.

I lost my voice during the con; when I left, I had a headache and was so tired I couldn't see straight. I was completely and utterly exhausted. Today I realized that I have officially come down with con crud. My thoughts after several hours of sleep?

- I need to acquire Hermione's Time Spinner. There are just too many cool things that happen at the same time that I don't get to attend. Dammit!
- Best. Dead Dog party. Ever. Jamming! With Guitars
- Must. Beware. of Danielle. Our Con Chair has a sweet smile that can melt your brain and make you to agree to do things you would never normally agree to. Honestly. Someone needs to make some MiB style Danielle-charm proof glasses.
- It's all the Sun God's fault. Though apparently, the Dark Star may have had something to do with it. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
- Dr. Jaymie Matthews is AWESOME and should be at VCON every year. In addition, it would be helpful if the following label was slapped on his forehead before being released into the general VCON population: "Warning: This man may be injurious to your mental health." Because I may need therapy after the thing with the tongue. No, I'm *not* telling. Go ask him yourself. I dare you.
- The Publicity Coordinator and and the Dealer Liaison are evil. Especially when they are acting in concert. EV0L I tells ya. Seriously.

OMG I love my con. Just sayin'.

It was so amazing to see you and the fam again. You did an amazing job with hospitality. Several people said it was the best place to be in the convention. You rock! (and yes I am still biased.)

Thanks for sining Atlantis Shines and I watch you sleep. That made my con even better!

Thanks so much for including me in the filk track, and for our duet of Siren's Song!

The Media Filk session you moderated was terrific, and I loved hearing so many songs new to me. I wish the open filks had gone longer so I could have heard more from west coast filkers. Since one should always take a new song back after travelling to a con or house filk, Phil and I are learning Crossroads for this Saturday's house filk.

I had such a great time at the con. Can I be in on the filk program again next year? Pleasepleasepurtyplease???

The hospitality suite was awesome. I wish we'd spent a bit more time there. And my compliments to whoever organized Kidcon. The kids seemed like they were having a good time -- my granddaughter certainly did -- and Kinderfilk went off quite well, I thought.

Now on to Conflikt!
