Well....we won zilch last week. Anyone feel like trying again? It is 20 million this week.

I calculated what the chances are: 10 to the power of -12 It’s the same as pinpoint an atom within one meter.

So that would be a no then?

What? Any atom? If you assume that the universe is infinite, doesn’t it imply that the chance of randomly pinpointing any atom within any non-infinite volume is zero?

Atom radii vary for different elements, the term “atom radius” is quite sophisticated by itself as well. I took radius of “an average atom”.

What I meant: imagine line 1 meter long and one atom thick. There are approx. 1012 atoms there. Chances to win jackpot are the same as be able to pinpoint particular atom there.

Did you calculate those odds using the hypergeometric distribution probability?

Come on, show us the math…

But assuming an infinite universe is silly. Boundless perhaps, but not infinite.

What is the difference between 'infinite' and 'boundless' then?

Nope, simple combinatorics. It is 7 of 49, so:

P = 1/49*1/48*1/47*1/46*1/45*1/44*1/43

The surface of the earth is boundless (you can’t walk off the edge), but obviously finite. As opposed to the count of real numbers between 2 and 3, which is infinite but clearly bounded.

So am I the only one thinking "he forgot to multiply by 7!" in the calculation?
