Played Risk with the kids last night.

Jazzy was the Red Death - "Just call me Hemorrhagic Fever! You will all die a bloody death as I take over Europe!!"

I was white - "Yeah, we'll I'm like the white corpuscles that swarm and kill the infection - you're so going down!"

Girly Girl was yellow and Monkey Boy was Blue - "hey, that's like the bruising that happens..."

Then Jazzy and I burst into song:

"Speaking epidemiologically,
bubonic plague doesn't make sense to me,
Yersinia pestis makes you dead, it's true,
but it isn't as effective as the common flu..."

Okay, so maybe we listen to Seanan McGuire at our house a little bit...

They had their pieces out on the board, and Girly Girl was taking a little time trying to figure out where her 30 extra pieces should be placed. Jazzy barked at her to hurry up, and she said she was trying to plan.

"Oh come ON! It's WORLD DOMINATION! There is no planning, you just attack! That way, you don't have time to worry about plans going awry!"

Uh-huh. Easy to say when you luck out with all the 10 point canon cards.

It wasn't long till the red death kicked my ass out of Australia, and pummeled Monkey boy into a tiny corner of Russia (Or what would be Russia - this was the old skool version of Risk) Then She tried to trounce her sister, but that didn't work out so well for her, and she finally gave up.

Girly Girl proceeded to take over Africa, and then re-group her troops to soundly defend her borders. She's conducting her campaign with a far more tactically minded approach than I had expected from her. Hmm. All that gaming she's been doing is definitely shaping her approach in battle. I should get her playing chess.

The kids had all sorts of fun setting up their extra pieces into elaborate battle formations, and discussed at length the best strategies for blowing me to kingdom come whilst I ran off for a bathroom break. So, I came back and froze them all out of North America, at which point Jazzy started cackling. I asked her what the heck was so funny.

*gasp* *wheeze* "Great White North!" she finally managed.

"Take off, you hoser!"

"Coo roo coo coo coo coo coo coo-ooo-ooo..."

"Wanna beer?"

Girly and Monkey Boy were at a loss. Bob and Doug McKenzie are a little before their time after all..

Anyway, the game went far too late and I had to punt the teens off to bed by 11, so we slipped the game board on to a large poster frame I had in the store room and stuck it somewhere the cats wouldn't get into it - Joey *totally* would have just laid down in the middle of the board just because it was there, and Sally probably would have decided the pieces were fun to knock to and fro, and possibly eat. So. After work, after dinner, after Girly gets back from her Friday night gaming meet on Metro, The Wraith will take over the world!

Well, I *AM* white after all. And no one took John Sheppard Black, so they're DOOMED!

Doom doom doom doom doom da doom de doom doom doom...

Huh... are we the only family that doesn't play the World Domination version but rather the one with the mission cards? Because, hey, that keeps it down to about 3 hours, instead of 5 or something ;)

OK, this is funny.

Your family would probably get a big kick out of Illuminati or Nuclear War.

conquerclub.com - it's the online version of Risk. :) We should set up a game in the not too distant future! (I'm RangerNiko there.)

You have a variety of maps to choose from, which makes it even better.
