So. Freaking. Busy.

I decided that I really needed to paint.

Well, that was decided about 3 years ago, actually, but it never got done. moosiac4 and Jill came to visit - well, watch my kids while I was off tending my sick mom in Saskatchewan actually - and they put some Spackle on the walls and I requisitioned some paint from the co-op *BUT*... yeah. That was as far as it ever got. I never actually got the paint.

But, recently, my lack of sleep has convinced me that, despite the cost, I really needed a new bed. And a couch. Ours was nice while it lasted, but seriously - you have to put a couple throw pillows on it before you sit down because it is the ass eating couch and you are sitting on the floor if you don't.

That's what happens in a house of not-tiny-people, when several of them are teenagers who sit on the couch by flopping on it. Or that's my story anyway.

I hemmed and hawed and panicked about money and OMG what if I lost my job, because seriously, this is a temp job I have and they could let me go next week - but that's been the case since October and there are things that we need and things I need for my mental health, and if I have to stare at these gray-blue walls in my house another year, I'll go starkers.

So, new colours are Swiss Coffee (which the kids say is BORING OMG WHITE! but is so NOT white!) and an accent wall of Real Teal. And we're getting rid of the great big wall unit and putting in some shelves instead. I bought a couch at the Brick, which I know some people think is the kin of Satan, but it has a warranty and I'm not afraid to use it.

I also spent way to much money (or rather, I should say that all of this was me charging way to much on credit) on a Tempur-Pedic bed. It's wonderful. It's also really hard for me to sleep on it. I'm going to be adjusting to it for a couple weeks I think - and if I can't adjust, they will take it back, and I'll go for the pocket coil instead.

It's crazy expensive and I feel a little sick at spending that kind of money BUT... I'm not tiny and a cheap bed is going to last me a year and then I'll be right back where I started. I know this because I've gone through several beds, getting them cheap and/or second hand and they just don't last me a long time. I bit the bullet and I figure this bed should last me 10 years if the guarantee is to be believed. Averaging the value of my sleep per day over 10 years is worth it.

Oh dear god, I better not get laid off for at least a year, because I haz billz...

So, all of this has meant I have been crazy busy and have been ignoring everyone and everything and haven't been online except at work for a few minutes and I have been reading or working on my Reverse big band fic - which I will work on next weekend at Roomie's place! I am taking the kids to visit with the Roomie next weekend and we will have a blast just hanging out and watching movies and eating BBQ and doing nothing at all. *sigh* yes, it will be grand. but I will get some writing done too. Cuz the fic is due July 3rd, and I need to get my ass in gear. I have my idea, now I just need to write it.

Back to the house stuff - I am trying to reduce the clutter. OMG. My life is clutter. Anyone who knows how much I cling to things would be very proud to know how much stuff I've thrown out in the last few weeks. But, I am getting rid of some things that are in relatively decent shape. Anyone want:

A huge wall unit?

A 1930's Singer Sewing machine?

A huge buffet/storage unit?

A massive desk?

A huge bag of yarn with several half completed knitting projects?

A deep fryer?

A small juicer?

A small black and white TV?

Yay you for tackling the decluttering! Yay for new furniture that (will) make you feel good! Yay for exciting Swiss Coffee walls!

It's actually looking really nice. It's just insanely cluttered because it looks like we're just moving in (or out) cuz everything is everywhere. And I feel all discombobulated because of it. But. It already makes me feel better about the place - it was getting so grungy looking. It's a major improvement.

I'm tempted by the bag of yarn. I'm working on stuff for a Star Trek charity. It probly cost more to ship it the far south than to buy it though.

Coffee walls. Yum.

email me with your address. I'll find out what it would cost.

If no one has claimed the sewing machine or juicer, I will SOOOOO take them off your hands. Are you going to be out of town the weekend of the 26th or the 3rd? Because I am actually going to be visiting my brother up there from the 26th to like, maybe the 29th if you're going to be around and want to do lunch/dinner/wine or some such?

I put the sewing machine on Vancouver Freecycle and it went liek whoa. I had about 7 people ping me for it in a couple hours.

You can, however, have the juicer. It's just a little one, and is perfect for one person. I mostly have used it for juicing limes for margaritas.

I'm going to Abbotsford with the kids this coming weekend, but will be around on the 3rd. I'd love to see you - it's been ages! You can come over and see my new stuff. (and my mess, as I'm sure we're going to be working at this for the rest of the summer)

Hey! So glad to hear that you are doing well. We were talking about you at the meetup and wondering what you were up to. De-cluttering and painting sounds like a real mood lifter. I'll be on a family trip for most of July, but hope to see you in August, when I get back.

I've thought about you guys, and almost went a couple times, but I've just been crazy busy.

Tell you what - if I get organized in July, maybe we can have a meet-up/BBQ/episode viewing at my house.

After all this work, I want to show it off a little.

I'm soooo proud of you. it is so easy to work on breathing and keeping vaguely even and so hard to tackle the other stuff. I know this!!!!

Thanks hon.

Oooh I'm so proud of you :D Also if the yarn is still wanted by the person up *points up* there I could always ship it from here for you.

I can't wait to see the Swiss coffee walls and the Teal one too. As soon as I haz details of when I'm coming up I'll emailz you okay? (I know its the 8th at *some* point I just haven't decided WHICH point ;) and I'm coming home the 11th after the con 'cause I'm *insane* and am working the 12th)

Hey, yeah, it's way cheaper to ship from the US. That would be great!

I just checked, to ship a 5 lb, 12x12 box from here to Virgina would cost about $30. Which is probably about the same as the yarn.
Jun. 24th, 2010 01:06 am (UTC)
Yeah I just checked and its flat rate from here to Virgina $14.50. So I can *totally* do that for you in exchange for your couch ;)

Hi there

haven't checked LJ in ages, but if the juicer didn't get grabbed, I'd love to have it and I'll be up to Vancouver again July 1-16ish.

Any SG meetups likely to happen in that range?

Good luck with the painting. It makes a huge difference. I've been in my apartment 8.5 years and redid the living room a year ago (a pale grey that color-shifts to blue or lavender depending on the light, with an aggressively red accent wall). Just finished doing the bedroom in two shades of green with white trim. Sadly, I'm likely to be moving in August due to the manager being a passive aggressive psycho who I can no longer deal with. (He gave permission for the painting prior to his latest episode of psychosis.)
