I haz a life from time to time...

I had a wonderful dinner last night with the lovely and talented pukajen (who I get to see about once or twice a year when she's visiting or working in Van) and soundingsea & ironchefjoe, who I have not seen since Writercon 2009 in Minneapolis.

Sea and Joe got into Vancouver via Amtrak about 11pm the night of the riots. What a lovely welcome to our city. When I met them for dinner, I apologized on behalf of the city and Joe laughed - apparently, it was the 3rd apology they'd had that day. Then when pukajen showed up a few minutes later, the first thing she did was apologize for the same. We all got a chuckle out of that.

Dear World,

Please don't judge Vancouver on the actions of a handful of stupid morons who caused hundreds of thousands of dollars of damage, as horrible as it may be. Instead, please notice that many volunteers came to clean up, which is a more accurate reflection of who we really are.

A proud Vancouverite who still thinks the Nuks rock

In other news, pukajen and I will likely be getting together on the weekend to watch a movie/talk/drink/all of the above. *grin* I'm so glad she's in town!

I'll be in town tomorrow for the auction. I know a few morons can give a town a bad rep- but Vancovuer is wonderful and I know all who go there know that.

See you tomorrow at the auction!

It's not going to be easy getting over this, unfortunately...

Oh wow... so you actually weren't to ofar from the riots, then? I was thinking you'd be nice and safe, since I was pretty sure your place wasn't anywhere near them!

I kept thinking of when we had the WTO riots in Seattle... and they'd be showing the smoke and fires and rioters live on the news, and I would realized "that's just a few miles from here." It was so surreal.

This does remind me, though, that we've *got* to do another Canada run before too long. We're nearly out of Canadian Halloween candy, so it's time to stock up on mini Kit Kats and Mr. Big bars again.

My niece was just in Vancouver at the Cheaper Show (she sold 1 piece!) and she absolutely loved the city and the people. She wants to go back for more than just a weekend.
