Here's my final three challenge responses.

Snowflake Fandom Challenge Day 13

In your own space, share a favorite piece of original canon (a TV episode, a song, a favourite interview, a book) and explain why you love it so much.

The buddy moments between John and Rodney. Playing with RC cars has to be the top of the list, but playing the For Real Sims game, arguing about superheros or having beer on the pier - those are all right up. These are the moments that the writers put in there to show us the guys had a casual friendship, but the feelings and camaraderie that the actors portrayed were so much greater than a few lines on a page.

Subtext speaks volumes, man.

Snowflake Fandom Challenge Day 14

In your own space, ask for help. Need a beta? Always wanted to learn how to make a vid? a fanmix? icons? Maybe you’d want to have someone cheering for you while you work on an upcoming big bang or fannish bingo?

Dude. That's tough.

I think what I would really love kinda goes back to one of the previous challenges - I would love it so much if my filk, "John's Song" could be made into a vid about John Sheppard, but I haven't the foggiest how to do that sort of thing.

Yeah. That would be awesome to know how to do that.

Snowflake Fandom Challenge Day 15

In your own space, share a favorite memory about fandom: the first time you got into fandom, the last time a fanwork touched your heart, crazy times with fellow fans (whether on-line or off-line), a lovely comment you’ve received or have left for someone.

Oh! Writercon. It's that simple. Writercon 2004 in Vegas. Writercon 2006 in Atlanta. Writercon 2009 in Minneapolis. I actually have particularly fond memories of the 2009 con. *sigh*

It was great working with the wonderful women on the concom. It was fun planning and prepping to make hospitality work. I had a great time hanging out with everyone at the con and running the hospitality suite. I wish that it could happen again. God, I had so much fun!

I think one of the moments from all three cons that really stands out to me; I was sitting in the hospitality suite in Vegas till absurd hours of the night, talking to chrisjournal and mintwitch about speech and language. It devolved into a discussion about the etymology of Creole French, examining the Acadian influences on the dialect and how it is informed by many Choctaw and Algonquin loanwords. It was extremely interesting, and was yet one more thing that enforced for me that people in fandom are NOT just a bunch of loony fan girls, but actually, very educated and intelligent people.

So that's it. 15 Challenges in 15 days. I didn't get them all done on time, but I got them all done. I think that's the first time I ever completed something like that.

I also found some cool fics and a very cool filk while perusing the submissions by other participants. There's a lot of stuff there that's not my thing, but I've seen things that are - even on my flist, people talking talking about things I was previously unaware of. It's been a trip.
