Con and Car update

I got an estimate from the mechanic. They figure around $400.If it's only the ball joint. He got rather wide eyed and told me that it was a good thing that we were going sloooow or we could have flipped. And likely be dead. Urk.

Note: some people suck. Not all, but some. The tow truck driver, who did NOT suck, kindly stopped by my bank on the way to the garage, even though they were hugely busy (almost 3 hour wait). There was a couple in line for the ATM and a long line of for the till. I asked, very politely if the couple would mind if I budged in front of them since I had a tow truck waiting outside with my car and I was in a hurry. They just rolled there eyes and said he'd wait - then totally ignored me.

Man. I was so surprised - stunned even. I mean, I would have totally said, "sure, no problem," had I been the one being asked. Happy to help a fellow human being, especially since all it will cost me is a couple minutes of my time when I am clearly in no hurry, chatting with my partner. The casual disregard and dismissal, the look that indicated they couldn't believe I would be so rude to even ask - totally floored. I feel like I want to apologize to myself on behalf of other humans! *shakes head* It's kinda mind bendy.

Anyway. Got back to the con, got an autograph from Chris Judge for a certain filker from the UK who wrote a great song called "As Am I". Heh. I told him I missed his panel cuz my car broke down and he asked if I was okay. awww, that was sweet. I told him it was good I was going slow or I would be dead, and could he kindly sign this song? I gave him a copy, which he seemed pleased about.

I've spent the last few hours hanging out with most of the gals in the bar (which has wifi this year, hence my real-time updated - yay!) Lou Diamond Philips came in to have a bit to eat at the next table. I really like him even though I am not an SGU fan. mercury973 popped out to the ladies and I made the comment, "You don't own beer, you just rent it."

Well, he looks up at us and asks, innocent as all get out, "Where's she going?" and we all cracked up. Then he says, "Because you didn't make it totally obvious."

Because I am constitutionally incapable of keeping my mouth shut, I followed up with, "Oh, was that my outside voice?" which caused another crackup. I am reasonably sure it got a chuckle out of Lou.

A few moments later he got up to head over to the desert party to schmooze with the Gold Patrons. As he walked by, he said very clearly, "I'm going to the loo. Because, apparently, you don't own beer, you just rent it."

Tomorrow, the pièce de résistance. Joe and David. WOOT!

I, too, am glad you're all right.

But sitting next to LOU DIAMOND PHILLIPS -- how are you still standing?

Very glad you're all right!

However, I now need to make an icon for you: You don't own beer, you just rent it.

Wow. Even a simple, "No, we're also in a hurry, we're sorry," would have been better than that. People really do suck.

But, I'm glad you're okay, and that you got to enjoy part of the con!

Oh. I am glad you are having such a great time--and that the car doesn't sound terminal!

I can only imagine you cracking up everyone at dinner--I would have liked to have been there for that! Can't wait to hear your update for today. Looking forward to it!

You sat by and talked to Lou Diamond Phillips!?!
Wow Shad I think that is the Universe's way of paying you back for missing part of the con. (And not the SGU either... LOL)
Sounds like you are still having a pretty good time, please continue! LOL

I think the bar time was *way* awesome this year. Especially since I was cast as the rube who states the obvious ;)
