Zig Zaggity WOOP WOOP!

Listening to Big Bad Voodoo Daddy makes plowing through ENDLESS FRACKING CUSTOMER EMAILS at work a lot less insanity inducing.

Okay, the emails still make me crazy, it's just less painful when I'm bopping along to awesome swing music.

And amusingly, the name of the CD is "Save my Soul" which given the soul-destroying power of customer complaints? Heh.

Gratuitous SGA Fandom moment: (and if you haven't come to expect at least one of those in just about every post I ever make, you have NOT been paying attention) I was pondering songs that describe characters, and I don't necessarily mean only lyrically. As I listen to "Zig Zaggity Woop Woop*", I can't help but think that musically, the song is totally McKay. It's a little bombastic, a little arrogant, fully of frenetic energy and even a little annoying - but I love it.

That led me to thinking about how when I was on a Great Big Sea bender a few months ago and listened to nothing but PLAY and ROAD RAGE for weeks on end, I decided that "I Am Up" was the perfect song for Sheppard. I thought that what feels to me like a juxtaposition of a plaintive, minor melody against cautiously, almost unwillingly, positive lyrics (plus the message of being up = flyboy) really nailed the character for me.

YMMV of course.

I'm curious - have any of you ever heard a song that you felt *nailed* a character for you, either musically or lyrically? If so - why?

Ryan Adams's album Shadowlands is all tied up with Spander for me because I listened to it on repeat while I was writing my Spander epic. Every song on that album reminds me of either Spike or Xander in some way.

Hmmm... I've had similar things happen while writing - or, more often, listening to a song mix someone created for a story - I start to associate those songs with the characters in the fic.

Usually those particular iterations though - not all version of the characters are the same.

It's interesting. Thanks for playing!

La Familia always makes me think of John Sheppard. To me it's all about his tangled feelings for his team and his fear that one by one, they will find love and leave him behind.

Oh! That is very interesting!

I'm at work so I can't watch it right now, but I most certainly will when I go home. That's just so John, isn't it?
