I guess I'm going on a trip...

Apparently my dad is back in the hospital. He had come home, but he went back in last week because there was fluid in his lungs.

I haven't heard thing from AlabamaBro, which is really annoying, but par for the course. My sis-in-law is at least answering facebook messages; she seems to think he should be out tomorrow or Thursday.

I bought my plane ticket last night. Man, I shudder every time I spend that much money, but I really can't complain too much - I got a better deal than I'd been seeing for several weeks, on the order of about $150. It a paltry $7 more than the very cheapest flight I'd spotted, but that one had a ton of transfers and I didn't want it anyway.

The surprising bonus is that taking the side leg over the Greenville for the weekend with the girls only added on about $100, so pretty amazing.

So. Going to see dad and the family. Am planning to telecommute while I am there so I can don't have to worry about someone else sort of doing my job badly while I am away. This has the added bonus of requiring me to get away from the crazy for several hours each day, which I am totally good with.

My boss has kindly offered to try and upgrade my ticket with his magic bonus flight points. The guy spends almost as much time in the air as I do in the car, he's out of the office at least 50% of the time and has a bazillion points - and he was able to get me some business class perks on a couple legs of my flight to Ohio last year. The leg to Atlanta and the leg back from Greenville have potentials for upgrades, so we shall see what happens.

Holy crap. My dad is going to be 75 in November, guys. I suppose I should bring him something. But what? He doesn't smoke or drink or have any hobbies, really. I will have to ponder that.

Men that age are so hard to buy for. Safe travels and I pray he will be well soon!

Really sorry to hear about your dad. :-( I know how those things go and how tough it is to be so far away and not get the information you want and need. Hope things improve and he is released as planned. *hugs*

Sorry to hear your dad's not doing well. When my dad started having trouble what he needed/wanted most was comfy warm clothes and stuff to read. Before his heart attact my father never owned PJs or sweatpants. He slept in underwear and lives in jeans.

I guess I'm saying ask around to see if he needs anything not exactly an extra special gift idea I know.

Hmm... that's a good idea. Thanks!

Best wishes to your dad & travel wishes for you.

Random thought - a soft warm scarf?

Thank you!

Might not be a bad idea, even though it's usually pretty warm in Alabama. Older people generally feel the cold more, so - there you go. :)

Congrats on getting the time off and doing somethig fannish. :-)

As for your dad ... I'm honestly not sure what to suggest. There *are* [or, at least, used to be before the Second Depression] stores that specialize in selling gadgets, board games and the like for the "man who has everything." But it would be nice to have an idea of what might be suitable in advance.

Yeah, it's just really hard to know what he might like.

Maybe I'll just bring him something quintessentially Canadian.
