I love my son. But MAN! That kid is so much like his dad sometimes I want to strangle him.

Yay, disturbing lack of social skills like COMMON COURTESY AND MANNERS.

I am working from home today (YAY TELECOMMUTING!) and he just texted his sister to go turn on his computer so he could remote into it for some homework. Ordered her. And when she didn't react fast enough, he called the house and started barking, not realizing *I* was the one on the phone.

You can imagine how well that went over with me.

We had a conversation that consisted of me advising him that his lack of planning does not constitute our emergency and that if he wants a FAVOUR, he better say please and ask nicely.

I may love and adore Rodney McKay, but I don't want a son like him.

I've got the rotten fruit if you've got the stocks set up. :P I know it isn't easy dealing with his challenges. Ask me about my niece sometime.

My first thought was, "Rodney McKay is her son's father??"

By the way, I'm ezagaaikwe. New name, y'all.

Rodney McKay is a character that I love. He's my favorite.

But to know him in real life? Probably wouldn't work out so well.

I know, right?

Being Rodney's mother must have been a trial.

Hmm. I wonder if anyone has ever written a sympathetic story from her POV? She is so often cast as a bitch, I'd be curious to read a story where she is not - just an exhausted mother with two brilliant children.

Hmm. Maybe I need to write one.

As far as I know, nobody has. Though that's probably because - given Rodney's lack of social awareness, his comment that his parents fought and blamed him, she doesn't come off as all that sympathetic. But it'd definitely be an interesting read!

You *should* write one :P

You know, parents can sometimes make a horrible mistake in the heat of an argument, say something a child overhears and have it scar that child for life.

Having made my own share of mistakes with my kids (and having vivid memories of many times I've fallen short and said things I deeply regret) I can understand fully how a 'normal' mom with limited resources in an unhappy marriage could say one thing - maybe even only one time - and leave her extremely trying, genius child convinced that she hated him.

And having had that trauma, all the apologies in the world couldn't heal the rift, only time and actions that spoke louder than words. But. If there were some reason - like the family split and Rodney went with his dad, or if she died before they resolved it, yeah. He might be left, forever convinced that his mom blamed him.

Man, that's very painful.

Rodney says that thing to Jeannie, "that's what dad would have wanted", which is pretty much establishes that their dad is dead, but I don't think it's ever been established in canon if his mom is dead, even though most people seem to thing so.

Hmm. Must think more on this.

That's a very good point - sometimes you do say things in the heat of the moment, and if she didn't know Rodney was around...

Rodney says that thing to Jeannie, "that's what dad would have wanted", which is pretty much establishes that their dad is dead, but I don't think it's ever been established in canon if his mom is dead, even though most people seem to thing so.

Ooo, it'd be really interesting to read a fic where Rodney's mother is still alive. I don't think that's been done before - there's fic about John's family, but the fic about Rodney's focuses solely on Jeannie.

Shad... you read my mind.
I definitely think you should do a "ficlet" from Rodney's Mom's point of view!
Please please please!!!
(And no, I am not Really a mother. I just have a fur child of the feline persuasion. And he drives me crazy too!)

hope he's recovering nicely from the assthrashing.

Re: ew
Hee! It was virtual thrashing and he was well and truly chagrined.

YOU LADY! How the heck are you and the girl child? You two have been in my thoughts.

Fubar boy! :-P

Talk to me about how I became an instant parent to my 15 yr old nephew because both of his parents are complete and total fuckups.

He's becoming very whiney at having to GASP! walk home less than 1.5 miles from the Y to my place. Says the stupidest of things about "gang bangers" in my apartment complex and is HORRIBLE in pissing all over the toilet and not cleaning it up.

So glad I have a home counseling service coming in this week to start impressing upon him the importance of hygiene.
