Multiple topics; the state of me

It's NaNoWriMo!

Yeah, right! 50K feels so far beyond what can even imagine cracking out. I'll hang out in ushobwri instead and try to soak up some inspiration there. I did get 538 words written the other day, though - go me!

I've been working on more ATCs.

Boys and toys

City of DreamsATC

SGA boys ATC

Song of Atlantis

Shield or Hydra ATC

I tried a few POI ones, but I haven\t been thrilled with them so far. Back to the drawing board... or printer, actually. Once I get some more colour ink.

So, I don't often talk about it, but I make jewellery and try to sell it. It's hard, really, because I'd much rather GIVE it away than try to sell it, but I must at least try to make back a little of the money that I spend on all the pretty stones and semi precious things. If I could at least break even, that would be awesome. Just make enough to support the crack habit, right?

So far, I have had a couple of actual, for realz, paid me money customers. I even have my first return customer, and this time she wanted a custom piece. She bought a strand of citrine chips at a bead show a number of years ago and asked if I could restring them for her.

Wow, they were a mess. Nice colour, but probably 80% of them were drilled so far off to one side, they were more like briolettes, only not nearly so pretty. Once it was sorted and strung, finishing the necklace with chain and findings and making the earrings didn't take long at all, but whoa. Going through the stones and trying to match uneven shapes and drills up beside each other for the best fit was TIME CONSUMING! A while back, I remember deciding that I would charge at least $10/hour for my work, but this thing would cost her $80. I feel a little reticent to ask her for that much when she supplied the stones.

I think I did a fairly decent job, but I only managed to use about half the stones on the strand she gave me. This is what the finished piece looks like:

Yis, writing is good! And I haven't forgotten about you; the "Casual touches that make John Cringe until they don't" is on my list.

Ooooh, I am so happy to know that people like your bracelet! That makes me very happy. Whee!

Well, thank you! Actually, I have a website; I just haven't finished putting it together. Stupid, really, that I've been paying for the domain for a while now, but getting the page done always falls to the bottom of my list.

My plan is to actually get a page up an running that I can refer people to next weekend. Will this happen? That's a good question. but I live in hope. I want to have a for realz website before the Christmas season. Heh.

Meanwhile, I will try to post more stuff here for the interim.

Gorgeous piece, especially with what you had to work with.

And I like the ATCs.

Thank you! The citrine was quite nice, actually, a really lovely, pale yellow. It's not the best colour for me personally, but the client has darker colouring than I, and I think the colour looks lovely on her.

I'm glad you like the cards! I have no idea what I'm doing, really, I'm NOT an artist, but they're fun, so... there you go.

seriously, it's a quality piece. I've paid as much as $80 for something similar (well, I didn't, the BF got it as a gift. :-) I like the one you made better!

You are so sweet! Seriously, how can so much cute and sweet be packed in one person? It's a mystery.

The necklace looks *great* - especially in light of the challenges you describe re working with that set of stones. Brava!
