OMG ! Let's go buy some SHOES!

Ok, anyone who knows me is aware that is SO NOT ME. But sometimes, even if you don't care about what the fashion industry insists women MUST HAVE TO BE AWESOME, from time to time you need a new pair of shoes or a new bag.

A few years ago I found that if I can afford to buy the more expensive leather thing instead of the cheapest no-name brand I can find, I should. Because QUALITY. Yeah. You do, in fact, get what you pay for. This discovery coincided with getting a job that paid me a livable wage.

When Jazzy girl got her current job just over 3 years ago, we went out together and got some new shoes at Naturalizer. To me, dropping $70 on a pair of shoes is PAINFUL. But we both did, and that was the sale price - I shudder to think of the full price. I got a leather purse too because I needed a good one that wouldn't fall apart that my tablet would fit in. It was around $50. I have *never* paid over $30 for a purse in my life.

Since then, Jazzy's gone through 4 or 5 pairs of leather work shoes, but as she is on her feet 8 hours a day in a kitchen, no surprise there. I realized I finally needed a new pair last winter when I could not walk in the rain without getting soaked feet. Then a few weeks ago, my purse strap ripped off the side of the purse, so I needed a new bag too.

We ended up at The Shoe Company at Market Crossing on the weekend. Sadly for their employees, the location is closing (it sucks to lose your job) but good for me, everything was on sale. I acquired this bag, which I got for 30% off:

Also, a pair of Clark's shoes. I couldn't find the *exact* ones, but they are kind of like this style, with the criss cross leather pattern on the front with this style, the little elastic piece on the side. They were on 40% off.

I have actually been thinking that I might need to take my old shoes to a shoe repair place, because I *love* them and the uppers are in really excellent condition - not coming apart at the seams or anything. It's just the soles that are shot. Maybe I could get some more wear out of them - it would be worth it for $10 or $15.

I actually bought new boots last winter, and the one before, and paid more than I usually do. But they're so comfy and the fit is great, and I know they're going to last more than a season or two, which is great.

Nice. You need good boots when you live in a place that has snow. I don't NEED boots because mostly we get rain.

I keep thinking that I'd like to get a nice pair of high leather boots, just because they are cool and I WANT THEM. But, like the rest of me, my calves and ankles are fat, so it's hard to find boots that fit. Eh. Maybe one day I will luck out.

I grew up purchasing my clothes at second hand stores. I still do, mostly, but I will rip through the thighs of my pants within 2 months. Until I found Carthartt. Holy crap, they don't make them for women, but with a belt I can probably wear this one pair for over a year. $55 versus $10 every couple of months? Yes PLEASE.

I strongly approve of buying second hand whenever you can find nice things that fit. I grew up on Sally Ann clothing, but alas, being large makes it hard to find used items that fit. Thus I've usually had to buy new, except for the odd time I find something at a large size consignment store.

But sometime you find things - like you said with the Carthartt - that it's just worth to spring for a new one at a higher price because the quality makes it worth it.

Shoes are the one thing I will spend money on, not just for the pretty (though I am guilty of that, which is silly because 99% of the time, practical footwear is a must) but because I've learned the hard way, I just end up buying more cheap shoes than if I simply invested in a good pair to start.

I'm envious--the purchases look fab!
