Girlygirl actually did very well in all of her written work and exams in her course - yay for her! Sadly, the practical part didn't work out so well. There were supposed to be three practicums but she didn't get a pass on the second one. She's currently back at the house keeping job at the school and plotting her next move.
MonkeyBoy was in a networking course this year to get a leg up on a BCIT course he wants to take. I'm not entirely sure what's happening with that, nothing was hammered out about next fall before school ended. He's got a scholarship from the ARC program though, so I'm reasonably sure he's going to make something work. He got hired at the school for do housekeeping for the summer, so he'll have a few bucks come fall.
JazzyGirl was going to get a place with her friend last fall. Said friend took a trip to Toronto, so it got put off till late fall, then before Christmas, then the new year... then friend admitted she didn't want to come back. She loves TO. Go figure.
Then, a few months ago, JG found out her company lost the kitchen contract at the school. She didn't like her company, but she loved working at the school, and was always talking about her girls. I think she'll land on her feet, but it's pretty disheartening to lose the job she really loved and has had for the last 4 years. While she was offered a position in the company at a different location, it's out in Surrey. She is also working in housekeeping for the summer, and will figure out what she's going next a little later.
Late February, the senior director at our office called an All Hands meeting. As there was no reason to have a meeting, the first thing I thought was "They're closing the office and laying us all off."
Turns out I was right about the first part. Since half the people had been working from home most the time anyway, they figured there was no reason to keep renting space. He went on to explain that they had spoken to all of our bosses (since there were at least 5 different in the Burnaby office and we all reported to different managers) and they all confirmed that they did want to keep us on.
So, I shot my direct manager and big boss and email saying I'd need to sort the details out with them, only to find neither of them had ANY IDEA what I was talking about. *Facepalm* Communication. Right. What was a thinking? Turned out it wasn't just me, so I didn't feel too bad.
So, it's been hectic, trying to make a space to have a home office (yeah, not really possible, just cleaned out the back half of the bedroom) and getting the new laptop and W@H requirements taken care of (VPN, oh you are the bane of my existence, and Citrix, you suck even worse!) and still trying to deliver normal performance at work (no stress at all) and plan for the QBR in Nashville in June (GAH!). The office closed on June 1st, and I am now officially work at home.
My office being upstairs in my room was a bit of a challenge when I got home from my business trip; I managed to sprain my knee in downtown Nashville right outside the IT office while crossing the street. CROSSING the STREET. Seriously, what the actually f*ck. HOW did I manage that? Unbelievable.
Let me tell you, navigating around in an airport, trying to manage carry-on luggage while on crutches is not fun. The only upside is being on crutches does mean that you get to board first (Thank you GOD!) and it also meant I got to ride in the little golf cart thing instead of trying to crutch my way across international arrivals to the customs and immigration area at YVR. It's a loooooong walk on crutches.
In other news, I have an etsy store now. Yay, go me! I'm always leary of linking RL things to fannish things, and since my LJ tends to be heavily fannish, I try not to reference real names, or I keep the references locked to Friends Only. But. LJ is pretty quiet these days, so I'm not too worried.
So hey, if you're interested, check it out: Leather Brass and Stone
If nothing else, I can sure use the word of mouth advertising if you like the stuff I make and want to tell other people about it. I am terrible at self promotion, I would just make things for people for free because I like to.

Best luck

Yes, that was the first thing I told her, and she did - they (her old company) sure didn't make it easy to find out. I think they really don't want her to jump ship. She is a very hard worker, reliable and creative. I'd love it if she got on with the new guys.
Pondside has lost her credentials, but sends her love.
Etsy is funny in that it makes you create a store name as all one word. Might not be the best store name ever, but it took me so long to find a name that wasn't already in use I was ready to cheer when it finally worked.
And you have some really gorgeous stuff in your etsy store!
An thanks! I am glad you like the stuff in the store! My goal is to put up 2 or three new things every month, ideally at least one thing every weekend. We'll see if that happens.
Notice how I didn't say it was in the mail. Because I am made of fail at getting things done. but, it will be in the mail this week. I hope you like it - I went for delicate and black with blue tones.
You are a sweetheart. I can't wait to see it. I know I will love it.
I've been dealing with personal injury myself--it sucks big time. And I have this theory it just gets easier as we get older. I was shifting bales of hay, for pity's sake. Something I've been doing for decades...
But I am THRILLED TO DEATH you have an Esty store now! OMG, I love your jewelry--that bracelet you made for me is my all-time favorite! Would it be all right if I mentioned your store on my (author) Facebook page? People should be checking out your stuff!
So hey, if you want... if you ever write a story where there's a piece of jewelry involved, let me know, and I'll be happy to try to create it for you.
*grin*
Now, of course, I feel the need to incorporate a bracelet of power into the Sixth Sense series, just so I can commission a new pretty for myself! ;-)
I don't want to charge ridonkulous prices - I just want to cover my costs and make enough to buy more
crackjewelry supplies.A bracelet of power? Hmmm, I suddenly have this vision of a triple layered, leather wrapped cuff with some amazingly cool doodad as a closure. Maybe Bloodstone or Seraphinite.
Yeah, ok, I'm going through a green phase *grin*.
Righto, then. Pictures and promo coming up!
I will look at your store!
I think of you every time I drive through Bellingham (again today) and one of these days we will have to coordinate something.
I will take your hugs and snark and raise you some hand flailing.
