And lo, the songs resounded loudly through the journal of lives and verily the message was clear - SPEAK!

I dunno about your guys, but *I* was not expecting a response on this scale. My flist hasn't been this rockin' in YEARS! WHOO HOO! I'll try to keep up, but please be advised we just got a 30 day notice of intent to start working on the re-piping in my townhouse - just the start of the retrofit project in my 70+ unit complex - so we're in the middle of packing as if we're moving, except we're not.

At least we get to live out of boxes in our own house - cause man, actually having to really move SUCKS. And in the end, we'll have brand new pipes that aren't on the verge of exploding, brand new flooring (good riddance to 30 year old carpets!), new windows, new sliding glass doors, new kitchen cabinets, a new shower stall, and new siding on the outside. So I guess in a sense, it's not us who are moving - pieces of the house are. Heh!

Getting to know me:

So, I've been on LJ for over 13 years now, following the great BtVS migrations from the yahoo groups like BAPS and the Gutter to Live Journal. I've made a few 'about me' types posts over the years, and here they are, for the first time, all in one place!

Holy SHIT this is old! From 2003, The Official Shaddyr LJ Policy Wow. I totally forgot about that. heh. that was fun.

In this post from 2010, I wrote about My (sometimes fickle) love affair with Imaginary Characters... which was great fun.

This is more recent, from 2012 - my McShep match interview wherein were asked numerous questions about everything from favourite pizza topings and Ninja's vs Pirates down to what brought me into fandom in the first place. Very SGA and McShep centric, given the forum.

Just a few months ago, we did a "25 Things" meme thing at work to try and get to know everyone on our rather large and geographically diverse team. This one is the most general and least fandom specific (since it had to be work safe) but still covers my fannish geekery.

Short version for those who simply don't have the time:

Mom of adult kids; jewelry maker; cook and baker; paper crafter; singer and guitar player; feeder of cats (because cats don't have owners, they have STAFF), lover of Most Things Marvel; fan; filker; geek; keeper of spreadsheets; volunteer; hospitality maven; amateur beer aficionado; McShepper, Spuffy fan, and undecided about what NCIS pairing I ship; fanfic writer.

Eh. It's a start.

I don't envy you having to deal with all that upheaval in your house! Moving alone is a pain in the butt, but at least you don't have that to content with.

I've always liked the idea of making jewelry but I'm not creative in a psychical way, I'm more creative writing. What sort of stuff do you make?

Yeah, I just keep reminding myself, this could be *so* much worse - and I get RENOS at the end of it all!

As fort jewelry - mostly beaded stuff. I love semi-precious stones. I have an Etsy store, actually:

Leather, Brass and Stone

I have more bracelets than anyone needs and am very fond of labradourite, tourmaline turquoise and amber. Well, really, anything pretty and shiny, but those are my faves.

In December I will have been on lj for 13 years too. I like your official lj policies.

feeder of cats (because cats don't have owners, they have STAFF Haha! So true. My cat (Duck) passed in June and she definitely felt we were here to serve her (and if we didn't do it to her liking she would sometimes peed on the bed or bathroom rug.)

Sorry to hear of her loss. It's hard to lose a four footed member of the family.

Yay for new friends.
Mar. 9th, 2016 02:50 am (UTC)
Amen to that, sistah!

I cannot believe the success of this meme. Wow! But yes, it's so great to see all these new folks and all this activity!

You are quite right about cats. Oy.

So glad to meet you and looking forward to getting to know you!

Aw man, I used to ship McShep so hard back in the day :D It's why I moved to LJ from the mailing lists. Having some intense nostalgic feels rn :)
Mar. 9th, 2016 02:51 am (UTC)
Awesome! I still ship em' - they are my boys!

I am also on staff for two cats, though the boy is far more high maintenance than his sister (but isn't that the case with most species?) I am also a long time LJ user. Nice to meet you!!!

That's funny! Same here - Joey cat is a long hair (I'm sure part Main Coon as he is HUGE) and such a whiner and attention hog. Miss Sally reminds us her bowl is empty but is often no where to be found for hours - until she's in the mood for petting, and then hello, now please.

It seems to me that we may have met ... did you go to the James Marsters album launch in Coventry?

Alas, I did not! I've met JM, but only on this side of the Pond, at cons. I've never been to one of his musical performances.

because cats don't have owners, they have STAFF

Oh indeed! I usually say that we don't own our cats, they own us. And the house. And everything in it. And they are simply kind enough to let us live in their things. :)

Truer words were never spoken. *grin*

To be honest, I don't think I've ever been a part of a friending meme that has taken off like this. It's amazing!
Mar. 9th, 2016 06:32 pm (UTC)
*waves!* another kitty person - I've friended you if that's OK!

No obligation to friend back ;)
Mar. 15th, 2016 07:10 am (UTC)
KITTIES! Because seriously, cats are the best.

yay! Friends! Woo!
Mar. 12th, 2016 03:40 am (UTC)
AWW! I remember yahoo groups. I have amusing memories from that time.

I enjoy Marvel as well.

Nice to meet you.

Hey! :)
Wow, your filking adventures sound great, and the stuff on Etsy is so nice too. (I love the turquise-amber necklace. Platonically. I don't really wear jewelry, but it's so beautiful!)
...so you bake intensely but seasonally?

Wow, your filking adventures sound great

I have some filk fun! Are you a filker as well?

the stuff on Etsy is so nice too.

Thank you! I really enjoy making it, but I'd never wear it all. If I can sell a few pieces to help support my bead addiction, well that's just great *grin*

...so you bake intensely but seasonally?

That is a great way to put it! I do like to bake - I like to cook, host, feed people, generally be hospitable - but I never have the time. Christmas baking is really my excuse to bake ALL THE THINGS. And it's so much more fun to be doing it with other people who like to bake as well.

My daughter and I have decided, though, that next year, we're going to pare it down in terms of the variety. I will typically try to do a dozen different things, but I have my favourite things to make, and the things I know people like the best, and my plan is to do 4 or 5 recipes next year and only add one new thing.

We'll see if I succeed in limiting myself or go off the rails. I suspect it'll be somewhere in the middle.

Nooo, I enjoy filks, but I don't make them. And I only sing badly. ;) (But happily.)
