I feel like I *should* make a post...

I should have something to say. Man, it used to be hard to get me to shut the hell up.

But, tired. I worked till 7:30 tonight to make up for leaving early to take the girl out for Tea at the Fairmont yesterday as a birthday treat. The tea was fabulous, but OMG! How can people afford to do things like that in real life? $75 each for afternoon tea!? We only went because I got a Groupon (2 for 1) with an additional % off, so I only paid $60 for the two of us. $30 seems much more reasonable for tea, tiny finger sandwiches and dainty pastries. We had a lovely waiter, and I tipped him on the full value, which was a little yeouch, but they did give us parking token which saved $16 in airport parking costs, so that balanced out.

Anyway... worked late. By the time I made dinner it was 8:30 and ate and put things away it was 9:30 and meh. Don't wanna. Also, probably the pomegranate soda with the shot of vodka may have contributed to the general feeling of don't wanna.

And now? Ice cream. Because I can. Nom.

Enjoy the ice cream.

That does look like a very nice afternoon tea - but the cost - sheesh!

Lovely birthday treat though, especially with your groupon offer.

I know, right? That's the Fairmont for you - the place where the 5% go. Too fancy for the every day, but lovely for a treat.

Your tea date sounds like a lot of fun! Glad you got to enjoy it thru Groupon.

I gotta say, we've done some really cool stuff thanks to Groupon. I love to do stuff, but I hate to spend money, so it's somewhere in the middle.

Oh, afternoon tea. Cringly expensive and for me, never actually worth it (I am a fussy eater, all the sandwiches are always too fancy for me!) I'm glad you got a good deal though, and that you enjoyed it. Hope the ice cream is good too! :)

It worked out ok for us because the stuff I hate (like salmon) the girl liked, and the stuff she hates (like apricot) I liked.

Isn't it funny how many times the really fancy and $$$ menu items have all sorts of stuff I would normally turn my nose up at, so I don't feel at all deprived when I think, "You could not pay me to eat that!"

Sounds you had a good deal. :D Ice cream always is plus.

I think you pay more for the atmosphere and the place were you sit, then the tea itself at a place like that. Sounds very expensive and exclusive to me. Glad you had a good time though!

Yes, this is exactly what the girl and I were talking about when we got there. It's an entirely different level of service.

It was *really* nice, but totally a treat. Like one every couple of years kind of treat.

Holy crap, that's expensive for tea! I've never done that - that may be the reason!

Always ice cream though :D

Well, if you go to the fancy tea store and get some fancy teas, make a few sammies from high class deli meats and cut the crusts off, and make (or buy) a few tasty petit fours, you can essentially have your own tea at home for a fraction of the cost.

Of course, it's kind of nice to have hottie waiter coming and fawning over you, but eh.

A hottie waiter fawning over me is worth a good bit, to be honest!

I am hoping to have high tea when I visit New York later this spring. I've never done it.

I recommend going at least once - though getting a better price is always good - because it really is a lovely experience.

Mmm I do love a good afternoon tea, even if some prices leave my eyes watering. Glad you enjoyed it :)

$75 FOR AFTERNOON TEA????!!!!!!!!!!!! Outrageous!!!
Mar. 18th, 2016 01:10 am (UTC)
Wow, that was pricey compared to the afternoon tea we had in Victoria in Feburary! We didn't go to the big hotel, we went to the White Heather, and it was about $30 each for the big one, with way too much food!

sounds lovely - and much more affordable. This was a special treat, and only because GROUPON!
