So ok, frustrating enough that there's been a cement truck across the way all morning, revving up and down while I was in Monday staff, making it virtually impossible to hear anything.

But then I go downstairs to get coffee, and what do I see but a garbage container sitting parked right behind my car in the fire lane. I called the on site guy at the number provided - which no one answered - after hours of that, I called the number on the letterhead to find out, hey that's the wrong number. Then I called the onsite and the right number...

Ok. I don't often get treated like a 'silly woman' and I imagine that, generally, that may be a function of the fact I avoid putting myself in situations where people have opportunity to talk to me like that. When I called to ask how long that container would be there and why no one knocked and asked me to move my car, guy had that tone of voice.. the one that says, "Oh, you're getting worked up over nothing, silly woman."

First, he was all belligerent; " *I* was the one who told them to put it there. I looked and you have plenty of room. You telling me you can't get out?"

The tone implied I was an idiot, and clearly should not be driving if I couldn't back out around the huge garbage bins in the lane (there is another one a little further down). I hate backing out when I can't see everything clearly, it makes me paranoid. I will park at the far end of a parking lot just so I can have lots of room and no one behind me when I park. I know what I can do and feel comfortable.

Then he gets condescending. "Oh, I'm so sorry to have inconvenienced you," in that tone of voice that says "I have much more important things to do and you are wasting my time. Then he asks, in a very patronizing tone, "Would you like me to have one of my guys come down and move your car?"

Well, actually, yes. I am not too proud to take advantage of the offer, even if they guy ends up thinking I'm just an air headed ditz. I don't feel confident backing out through all that stuff. So he did send someone, and my son walked along side to make sure the car didn't get dinged.

This is from my kitchen window, over my now empty carport. I don't have a super long car, but it's not a tiny compact either. I usually back into the space where the bin is and then drive forward. To me, this does not feel like a lot of room to back out.

YARGH! They could have just knocked on my flipping door - or posted a notice that there would be a bin dropped Monday morning and I would have moved!

Is it wrong that I'd like to go key his car or put maple syrup in his gas tank? Bah, I wouldn't waste good maple syrup on him.

What a jerk. he could have just apologized for the inconvenience and you wouldn't have been left feeling so YARGH! The attitude was all about making him feel big. Fuck that.

I am paranoid about not being able to see things behind me when I'm backing out of parking situations and that bin is low and long and would have made me uncomfortable, too.

In real life, my job is all about analyzing survey data and building better surveys, and how to improve the customer experience. So when stuff like this happens, all I can think is, "Dude, you so don't want ME taking your post service survey..."

That is super douche-y.

You're right, maple syrup would be a huge waste.

Mar. 22nd, 2016 07:47 pm (UTC)
I know, right? Corn syrup, maybe.

Oh, I hate that tone of voice. It makes me want to throat-punch someone, and I'm not usually a violent person.
Mar. 22nd, 2016 07:48 pm (UTC)
Yes. Throat punch so they can't make that *sound* anymore. Better then a punch in the nose.
Mar. 22nd, 2016 05:55 pm (UTC)
I know that tone very well! WHY do men always assume we can't do something!!
Mar. 22nd, 2016 07:51 pm (UTC)
Meh. It's annoying. If I *had* to (say, take my kid to the hospital) I would have. But I didn't want to... and what the hell? Why so hard to knock on a door? What happened to courtesy?

Put a tampon in his gas tank. Works better than maple syrup. Just saying...
Mar. 22nd, 2016 07:50 pm (UTC)

I can't even...

OMG I think I love you.

In the fire lane, with no prior or concurrent notice? On this side of the border, that's reason enough to call the cops, who can write a nice fat $$$ ticket for such jerk-offs.

We're sorry for the small size of his pe...rsonality.

o.O Yeah, that's not a lot of room. So not cool. Could have at least let you know. :-/
