I did not, in fact, fall off the planet...

Good LORD! I haven't posted since last summer. No wonder people thought I was dead.

To tell all would definitely invoke feeling of TL;DR in anyone reading. Also, it would be BOOOOORING, and I generally like you people, and that would be mean.

So, in short, my life has been full of the following:

Work shite:
- Unfortunately, too many people I work with remain incapable of following simple instructions. They do not seem to grasp the concept of REQUIREMENTS and that they are, you know, REQUIRED to complete plans and projects. Not sure why that's such a difficult concept, but it really seems to be. It's a sad testament to how pathetic things are when you realize I derive intense joy from a properly completed prod specs doc. I need to get a life.

Reno stuff:
- Yes, it's STILL going on! I am in RENO HELL AND IT WILL NEVER END.

- I took COMP 1630 - Relational Database Design and SQL. Dear God. I thought I was going to learn how to write some queries. *hysterical laughter* It was a little more in-depth than that. Somehow, I PASSED! Probably it was because the prof took pity on me. Dear god, why did I do that to myself? In related news, I have since created a SQL database for our movies.

Other events of note;
- The eldest child moved out and now resides on the island. I miss the progeny daily, but the offspring reports having landed a reasonably good job and appears to be mostly happy. Also, said offspring chose to return and visit a couple weeks ago. There were hugs and tears. And laundry, of course. That's a thing that kids are supposed to do when they come home, right? Crash, do their laundry and use mom's house as a springboard to visit their friends while they are in town. So, this is the natural way of things. It was good.

I miss having the energy/time/motivation to read and post on LJ at least a couple times a week. Things were really picking up after that friending meme and I've always preferred LJ to other things - like FB - but lately, I don't even want to look at a computer after work. Today is the first time in ages that I actually felt like I had a wherewithal catch up on the flist and post something.

So, what's up with you?

Hi! Reno hell sounds awful. Why do we do this to ourselves? I have no idea what SQL even is but go you for passing the class and using your new knowledge to create a database for your movies. I still haven't figured out how to send photos with my year old iPhone.

It's great the eldest has moved and is mostly happy. We are in moving hell, packing up a home we've lived in a quarter century. So much stuff! It's daunting.

It *is* awful, but I am hopeful that one day it will be over. One day. ONE. DAY. Hopefully, before I am dead.

SQL is basically a way to find small, related data sets in a big ole pile of raw data when you have magic keys that link them all together. It is both really easy and incredibly complicated. Easy in that the basic theory is total logic and easy to follow - complicated because OMG DATABASES YARGH! I will figured it out. Eventually. Hopefully, before I am dead.

You will figure out your iPhone. I have discovered it is sometimes useful to ask a teenager about such things.

Ah, moving hell. That was sort of what it felt like around here when packing up most of what we own so they could do flooring and piping and whatnot; we did pack up the bulk of things and stick them in storage for months. So, I feel your pain - but at least, I just moved back into my space, rather than having to stick it all in a vehicle and haul it to some other new place and all the stress that comes with that.

You are right about the stuff! Even after we purged and purged and purged some more... so many bags of things went to the Sally Anne and the donation bins as well as the trash... but still! So much STUFF!

I wish you luck in the packing! Also, have a bottle of wine. It makes everything a little more fuzzy and a little more fun.

My eldest son has come for a visit. Yes he's brought laundry *sigh*

HA! So it is a thing. Kids, man.

Hey, have you heard about the secret friends group on FB? slaymesoftly has invitations, and it's been a massive BtVS/Ats reunion.

We're now (or were, rather) in Australia until November, although we're vacationing in Mexico at the moment, and have a couple of weeks of travel coming before we go back.Tyson's work made an offer that allowed us to live there for 10 months, and we took it. It's been fun, although we're a bit homesick.

Oh, and I really should thank you. Do you remember ages ago when we were discussing the possibility of a SGA/NCIS crossover? Yeah, I wrote that, and folks seem to really like it, so. Let me know if you want the link.

Yes! I saw the FB group and I joined! I actually put up a post about updating the cookbook that was created for Writercon in Vegas. I think that would be fun - especially since there is zero chance to me a) crossing the border right now and b) getting to Nawlins even if I did.

Ooooh, AussieLand! That is such a cool opportunity! I am so glad you had the chance to do something like that.

Also, do I want the link? DO I WANT THE LINK? What a foolish question, of COURSE I want the link. Seriously, did you really ask me that?

*rubs hands together gleefully*

Hand it over!

Cool! I wish I could go to New Orleans, but we'll still be in Sydney, and I'm coming back at the end of July for my niece's birthday and a prescription refill, so it's just not an option. Hopefully next time.

Australia has been very cool, but there really is no place like home, even if the world is currently burning. We miss our cats and our friends and family, but I'm glad we went on this adventure.

Here's the link to the series! Fair warning, the sixth part is well underway, but currently stalled, although I'm hoping that's changed now that the muse seems to be back again.

One of the nice things about going on an adventure, is when you get to come home. Travel and exploring and learning are fun, but home is home.

Excellent! New fic... bwahahaha! Thanks!

Good to see you. The offspring leaving home is really bitter-sweet isn't it? So nice to see them becoming independent people though.
Apr. 18th, 2017 01:30 am (UTC)
Yes! As sad as it is - I do miss having the eldest around - I am glad that it's working out. Also, knowing that the offspring will return from time to time is good. *nod*

Haven't posted to LJ in ages either but just dropping by to say Hi *waves*

It is good to see you! I am glad you said hi!
Apr. 15th, 2017 02:11 pm (UTC)
Hey you! Glad to see a post from you.

Glad the kiddo is doing well.

I don't know if you seen this yet, but there's been another mass migration from LJ over to DW because of the new TOS. A lot of people have deleted their LJs.
Apr. 18th, 2017 01:35 am (UTC)
*hugs back*

I have seen! I have actually done it - initiated the import and it's finally completed.

I am saddened that LJ is no longer the safe home it once was - it was my everything fandom place, and I will miss that. But, it is essentially unsafe now - half of the fannish stuff will be against the Russian overlords terms of service. So, fuck that.

I won't delete the LJ, but I think I'm going to start cross posting. Also, once my sub runs out, I'm not renewing. I'll pay for DW instead.
Apr. 18th, 2017 10:23 pm (UTC)
I'm not deleting my journal either, and I'm going to keep crossposting, but I'm trying to consolidate as much of my reading list as possible on DW.

I friended you over there, so I'm going to defriend you on LJ so I'm not seeing posts twice.

Apr. 16th, 2017 11:54 pm (UTC)

I'm glad to hear that your eldest is doing well.
Apr. 18th, 2017 01:36 am (UTC)

Yes, the eldest progeny seems to be doing quite well. If I am, occasionally, a little maudlin or sentimental, it couldn't possibly have anything to do with that. Nope, not at all. I admit nothing.
